The Research Office has responsibility for the development and promotion of the University's research effort and has lots of information on funding opportunities.  Keep an eye out for the weekly email 'Research Funding Opportunities'.  If you would like, the Innovation Office team can guide you toward the research grant most suitable for you.

Funding examples with a focus on industry

Enterprise Ireland (EI) has a great section on its website which highlights supports for academic research and its commercialisation.  Highlights include the EI Commercialisation Fund to assist researchers with technology development and market validation costs. EI also offer Innovation Vouchers, where €5,000 is available to assist a company to explore a business opportunity or problem.

Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) has a range of funding opportunities.  The Technology Innovation Development Award (TIDA) programme is run in collaboration with Enterprise Ireland and supports researchers undertaking applied research projects that demonstrate a potential for strong economic impact.

The EU's multiple funding programmes, include Horizon SME instrument which is aimed at SME's (secured by NUI Galway spin-out Westway Health).

Other funders include the Western Development Commission and the Irish Research Council.
